Whitepaper: MEMS – Enabling Advanced Sensor Implementation
Going beyond what conventional electro-mechanical components can achieve, MEMS devices are now seeing huge market uptake across a broad spectrum of industry sectors - from automotive to consumer electronics, from factory automation right through to medical. Providing highly reliable operation and elevated performance in compact form factors, and at very attractive price points, MEMS sensors have the added convenience that they can directly integrate any signal conditioning or interfacing circuitry required (with this being placed on a shared silicon substrate).
That aspect may also hold the key to another important benefit moving forwards, enabling greater opportunity for sensor fusion - with the outputs of multiple sensing elements being brought together in order to improve accuracy levels and boost long-term operational integrity. The following article looks in detail at the future possibilities for MEMS-based sensor fusion, giving examples of where it is already starting to happen.
